Apple Inc. is launching a new line of iPhone SE smartphones, the company’s highest-priced phone yet.
The phones will go on sale in mid-May, and include models with a 5.5-inch display, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor and a 1.5GHz octa-core Snapdragon 835 processor.
The phones are the latest step for the world’s most popular smartphone maker.
Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook and his chief of staff, Lisa Jackson, will lead the line.
The company will be launching its flagship model with a 3.5mm headphone jack and the iPhone SE will come in a variety of colors, including black and blue, and the company is also offering a “special edition” version of the iPhone that will include a red back and the new 3.7mm headphone port.
The iPhone SEs are also the first iPhones to feature the Touch ID fingerprint scanner, and Apple has introduced an NFC chip that can detect and authenticate Touch ID payments.
The new iPhones will be sold with a new version of iOS, the next version of Apple’s mobile operating system.
The new phones are also coming in different colors.
The black iPhone SE comes in a matte gray or white version, while the white iPhone SE has a black back, a matte finish, and is available in a range of colors.
